General Questions

What are the system requirements for The Perfect-Teller Program?

You must have Windows 95 or above, a 486 or above, 16 Meg Ram, at least a 28.8 modem, and Internet access.
Perfect-Tellers works on Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, and XP.

Do I need a special browser to use Perfect-Teller?

No. Since the browser is only used for downloading the program and for online help, there are no special requirements for your browser. You can use either Netscape or Internet Explorer. (see download instructions if you are having a problem)

Can I use the Perfect-Teller program on WebTV?

Not at this time.

The capability to use Perfect-Teller on an Apple Macintosh and WebTV is in the works and should be available soon.

Can I use the Perfect-Teller program on an Apple Macintosh computer?

There are programs (called emulators) that allow your MAC to run Windows programs. One of these programs should allow you to use the perfect teller program on your MAC.

The capability to use Perfect-Teller on an Apple Macintosh and WebTV is in the works and should be available soon.

I have more than one account at the credit union. Will I be able to access all of them?

Yes. You can access as many accounts as you have. The Perfect-Teller program will also allow you to save the password for each of those accounts.

I am a member of more than one credit union. Will I be able to use the Perfect-Teller program to access my accounts at multiple credit unions?

Yes, as long as each of those credit unions are running the Perfect-Teller (or CU-AT-HOME) server software. In fact the Perfect-Teller program allows you to save a different set of accounts and passwords for each credit union.

Will I be able to transfer money between my accounts at different credit unions?

Not at this time. That would require an actual exchange of funds between the two credit unions which is not currently supported. It's possible this feature may be added in some future version.

What is the clock in the top right corner of the window for?

For security reasons, the Perfect Teller program allows you to sit idle for only five minutes before it disconnects you. Each time you perform some operation that requires information to be requested from the Credit Union's computer, it resets the timer back to five minutes. The timer then starts counting down to 0:00 at which time the program will "Time Out" and disconnect you. Of course, it always says 5:00 while you are not signed on.

Downloading and Installing the Perfect Teller program

Overview

The Perfect Teller program needs to be installed on your PC before you can use it. In order to install it, you need to download the SETUP program from your Credit Union's Perfect Teller Update Page and then Click on that to start the installation. Follow the instructions for installing the Perfect Teller program on your PC.

Once it is installed, you activate the program by clicking on the Start button, selecting Programs then selecting PerfectTeller.

When you are using the program, make sure you have an active connection to The Internet.

How do I download the program?

Go to your Credit Union's Download page to download the Perfect Teller program from the Internet. Typically this will be www.perfect-teller.com followed by a 5 digit number that you can get from your Credit Union. (ie: www.perfect-teller.com/12345) Some Credit Unions provide a link to this page from their web site. Contact your credit union if you don't know how to get to their download page.

The install program's name is SETUP followed by a 3 digit number and .EXE (ie: SETUP124.EXE).
For consistency between versions, we will refer to this program as SETUP, even though there is a number at the end.

When the Save As window pops up, select the directory you wish to save the Setup program in.

We recommend you save it on your Desktop since this puts it right on the Windows Desktop (the screen you see when you have no programs or windows pulled up), which makes it easy to find when you are ready to install it.

If you choose to download it to another directory, be sure to note where you are downloading it. If you forgot to check, you can do a search for it by clicking Start | Find | Files or Folders and typing in SETUP124.EXE (or the current version if higher than 124).

I've downloaded the program, now how do I install it.

If you downloaded the SETUP program to the Desktop, you can find it by closing (or minimizing) all windows and then looking on the Windows Desktop. Double-Click on the SETUP icon. Follow the steps for installing the program.

If you don't remember where you downloaded the program, search for it by clicking Start then Find then Files or Folders. Type in SETUP124.EXE (or the current version if higher than 124), make sure you specify to search the C drive (or whichever drive you downloaded it to) and that Include subfolders is checked. Click on Find Now and when it finds the file, double-click on it to install it.

I've downloaded and installed the program, what next?

Once the program is installed, click on Start | Programs | Perfect Teller | Perfect Teller. Make sure you have an Active connection to The Internet and enter your Account Number and Password. Click SignOn to start accessing your account.

Problems with program operation

How do I get Diagnostic Information about why my connection is failing to pull up my account?

This feature is available ONLY in Version 1.0.121 or above of Perfect-Teller.

On the main SignOn screen, put a check mark in the check box labeled "Sign-On Diagnostics". This will cause a diagnostics window to pop up the next time you press the "SignOn" button. The information displayed in this window should help determine where the connection process is failing. A summary of each step of the sign-on process is displayed, including comments that explain what each step means.

I have been able to connect to Perfect Teller, but all of the sudden I've started getting a network error.

Please upgrade to Version 1.0.124, which is available from your credit union's update page. An update to the program to prevent reliability problems caused by the Nimda and Code-Red viruses also prevents older versions of the Perfect-Teller program from working. If you have Version 1.0.120 or older, you MUST upgrade before you can access your account information again.

I'm a new user of Perfect-Teller and I can't pull up my account information.

The first thing to try is to put a check mark in the "Use Alternate Log-in" check box. If that doesn't solve the problem, please read each of the Questions and Answers listed below.

I get the message "Connection Established - Looking up Account.", but nothing ever comes up.

If you are using version 1.0.120 or older of the Perfect-Teller, you MUST upgrade before you can access you account. You can get the newest version from your Credit Unions update page.

I get a network error when I try to sign on to my account.

You must have an active connection to The Internet to be able to access your account. If your computer is set up to dial on demand, the Perfect Teller program will cause the computer to automatically connect to The Internet. If not, you will need to manually establish the connection before you try to sign on to your account. If your computer accesses the network through a LAN (Local Area Network) and you are not able to connect, please read the next FAQ.

I am connected to The Internet and can access it with my browser, but still get a network error when I try to sign on to my account.

Put a check mark in the "Sign-On Diagnostics" box and then try to sign on to your account. When the window pops up, check to see if DNS lookup succeeded or failed. If DNS lookup succeeded, then this answer does NOT apply to you. If it failed then your PC is likely accessing the Internet via a proxy server. Some proxy servers require you to configure your PC to get past the firewall and out on to the Internet. SocksCap32 can be downloaded from http://www.socks.nec.com/reference/sockscap.html and will provide this function for Perfect Teller. You may be able to find the correct proxy settings to use (with SockCap32) by looking in the proxy settings area of your browser. Click http://www.socks.nec.com/sockscapfaq.html to get FAQs about SocksCap.

Contact your network administrator if you need help installing or configuring this program on your PC.

I am able to access my account, but my Draft account shows a minus sign just to the left of the balance. Is there something wrong with the program?

No, the program is working correctly. The Perfect Teller program uses a highly sophisticated routine which continually evaluates your deposits as compared to your withdrawals. It is beyond the scope of this FAQ to explain exactly how the routine works, but to sum it up, the minus sign indicates that you have less than no money.

Password Questions

I keep getting the message "Member Password not valid for specified Member Number".

  1. Make sure the Perfect Teller program lists you credit union name on the title bar and where is says "My Credit Union:". If it does not list your credit union, click the arrow on the right end of the "My Credit Union" field and select your credit union from the list. (This would only apply if you are a member of more than one credit union or if you previously downloaded the "Perfect FCU" demo program). If your Credit Union is not listed, you will need to go back to your credit union's download page and re-download and install the program. Make sure you include your credit union's five digit number as part of the link. (Contact your credit union if you don't know that number).

  2. Make sure your Account Number is the one assigned by your credit union. The account number at the bottom of your checks will have at least one extra digit which should NOT be used with Perfect Teller.

  3. Your password is case sensitive which means any letters typed in upper case (Capitals) will be different than letters typed in lower case. AB53222, aB53222, Ab53222 and ab53222 are four totally different passwords as far as Perfect Teller is concerned.

  4. If your SYBIL password was assigned for use by Perfect Teller, the original password that was set up for Sybil may have been a WORD as opposed to the numbers that you type on your phone keypad when you call in. Try to remember what the original word was (looking at the numbers you type on the phone for Sybil should help) and use THAT instead of the numbers. Try the word in all upper case or all lower case. Also, since the Perfect Teller password is stored separately from your Sybil password, changing your Sybil password will NEVER effect your Perfect Teller password.

  5. If you had your password SAVED and you changed it, the program still has your OLD password saved. To change the SAVED password, simply type in the NEW password when you Sign On.

  6. If you still get the "password not valid" message, please contact your credit union.

  7. Please see "I have been able to connect to Perfect Teller, but all of the sudden I've started getting a network error." in the previous section.

I'm trying to change my password and it keeps telling me the original password is incorrect.

This bug is fixed in the newest version of the Perfect Teller program.  Please download it from your Credit Union's download page.

I've forgotten the password that was assigned to my account. How do I get it?

It is not possible for anyone at the Credit Union to determine what your current password is. If you've forgotten what it is, the only choice is to have a new password assigned to your account. Depending on what your credit union's password policy is, you may have to go there in person to get the new password. Some credit unions will assign a new password and mail it to the address on your account, but for security reasons, NO credit union will tell you what the new one is over the phone. Please call the Credit Union to make arrangements for getting your new password.  Do NOT contact Branchsoft Technologies about your account password since we have no way of determining what it is or changing it.

The Perfect Teller program automatically fills in the password for my account number. How do I make it forget the password and ask me for it each time?

Remove the check mark from the SAVE PASSWORD check box and the program will ask you to confirm that you want it to forget the password.  If you say YES, it will promptly forget the password for the current account.

How do I remove a saved account number?

Remove the check mark from the SAVE MEMBER # check box and the program will ask you to confirm that you want it to remove the account.  If you say YES, it will promptly forget that account number.

What does the [Lock Program] button do?

It is advisable for you to use long, unguessable passwords to protect your account in the unlikely event that someone from the Internet tries to access it. Since most people don't want to enter a long password each time they sign on, we provided a method of saving that password with the account number so you don't have to enter it each time. This is all fine as long as you don't have anyone in your household (or office) that might try to access your account without your authorization. To protect yourself from the later situation, we provided a method to lock the program by entering a "simple" password that prevents unauthorized people from getting into the program on your own PC and accessing your account information. When you Lock the program, use a password that would be easy for you to remember and enter, but that someone else in the house could not guess. One thing to note here, if you have children and they decide to "lock" the program, it is not possible to access your saved accounts without knowing that password. So, you MIGHT want to put one on the program before THEY do.

The program says "**** Program is currently Locked ****", but I've forgotten the password. What do I do?

If you are authorized to access the program, Email the following information to locked@branchsoft.com

Someone will contact you about deleting the [Lock Program] password. The process of deleting the [Lock Program] password (without knowing it) will cause all saved accounts to be deleted (in the program only, not at the Credit Union). Once everything is deleted, you will be able to access the program and re-enter your saved accounts.

NOTE: For security reasons, Un-installing and Re-installing the Perfect-Teller program will NOT remove the [Lock Program] password.
